Hotline Winter Break

The hotline is taking a break! As every year, the TRNSYS hotline is going on a winter break and will not be available from the 22nd of December 2023 until the 05th of January 2024. We will be back for your questions on Tuesday, the 09th of January 2024.

Update TRNSYS 18.05.0001

For our TRNSYS18 users, a new update of the software is available for download. An overview of the changes can be found in the release notes. Besides several bug fixes, users of the spatially accurate test reference years for Germany (German TRY 2017) will be interested in the new models for the calculation of the effective sky temperature in the standard weather data reader (Type 15 – German TRY 2017). The models especially improve modelling at night. In Mode 1, the sky temperature is calculated based on the degree of occultation, while in Mode 2, the irradiance of atmospheric thermal radiation contained in the data set is used relative to the horizontal surface. The Locally Accurate Test Reference Years manual contains detailed information on the basis of the data.

Information on updates to TRNSYS18 can be found at Order

Update Installer TESS Libraries

As some users have already discovered for themselves, last year’s update of the TESS libraries (v18) contained a bug that in some cases led to an error when calling the Dynamic Link Library dll. We have already updated all installation files that were affected by this problem in the user-sprecific download directories in our Portal. By running the updated installation file, the problem can be easily fixed.

New User Forum

For 20 years now, the TRNSYS User Mailing List has served to connect TRNSYS users around the world. Now it’s time for a change. Starting in March 2023, the new TRNSYS User Forum will take the place of the old email group. The content of the forum is freely accessible via the following link: TRNSYS User Forum. To post new questions or comments, a user account can be created free of charge.

The previous TRNSYS User Mailing List will continue to exist for a transition period and beyond that, the archive of the group will remain accessible. You can find more information at FAQ – User Forum

TRNSYS User Day 2023

Besides the Foum, our TRNSYS User day is always a welcome opportunity to get in touch with each other. Therefore, with the positive feedback from our last surveys in mind, we would like to offer a half-day online event again this year. A date for the event has not been set yet. However, if you have a TRNSYS topic, project, or a new development that could be interesting for the user day, please contact us via hotline@transsolar.com.

BauSim 2022

In September, the bi-annual BauSim conference by IBPSA Germany and Austria was held in Weimar and we were delighted to be a part of it. As always, it was exciting to see how diverse the application of simulations in the building sector is, that is taking place in research and practice. At least as important for us, however, was the opportunity to meet old acquaintances as well as new faces in person and to exchange ideas in personal conversations alongside the lectures. On the website of the Bauhaus University Weimar you can find a summary and a short video of the conference here. The conference’s proceedings can be found at the IBPSA Website.

New AddOns available for Download

As announced during the userday, there is a number of new TRNSYS addons available. The following components are available for download at addons since late June:
Type 388: CO2-Concentration
This simplified model evaluates CO2 concentration in an airnode with a defined supply volume flow and flow path. Different air distribution methods (e.g. mixed ventilation and displacement ventilation) are accounted for by means of ventilation effectiveness.

Type 390: Solar Collector Array Shading
This detailed component calculates the radiation (direct and sky diffuse) on planar collector fields under the influence of self-shading and shading through external obstructions like surrounding buildings. The model outputs can be linked to other components e.g. flat plate solar collectors.

Type 3571: CFFI Calling Python/Julia
This component allows programming TRNSYS components in Python. Compared to Type 169, the communication with the Python script has been significantly improved and allows, among other things, the import of Python libraries (e.g. NumPy).

All three components can be downloaded free of charge and freely used under their specific license conditions.

Update TESS libraries

A new version of the TESS libraries available. You can find the latest information at addons.
